Most recommended: Top 5 places to try the beef noodle in Hanoi Capital City

Pho Ganh - Hang Chieu Street

Pho Hanoi is so famous not only in the domestic regions but also in the world. However, no matter how many restaurants rise, they cannot replace the "restaurant" along the sidewalks. Pho Ganh is an example.

Unlike other Pho restaurants, Pho Ganh opens at an extraordinary time: 3 am. A simple Pho restaurant on the sidewalk, with no wooden tables and chairs, no signboard, but still crowded with customers coming in and out whether it is rainy or not. The noodle soup here has an original flavor, includes well done, medium, and stewed beef noodles. The hot bowl of Pho is fragrant with the smell of bone broth, the meat is tender to the mouth, and the chewy noodles blend to create a remarkable flavor that makes the eater unforgettable.

  • Address: Crossroad on Hang Chieu Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi
  • Openning hours: 3:00 - 7:00
  • Price: 25.000 - 55.000 VND ($1,09 - $2,39)

I used to live a few blocks from Bun Bo Nam Bo for two years. You will easily miss the place if you aren't' looking for it. It is THE BEST bun bo that I had in Vietnam, hands down, and I would come here at least once a week. Don't expect an elegant restaurant. This place is all business, and it is wonderful. Long aluminum tables down the middle where you will sit next to young couples stopping by here on their way out for the evening or on the way home from school. They really only serve Bun Bo (and not very interesting nam or pork rolls which you can skip). Bun bo is one of Vietnam's great dishes, and it is made perfectly here. You'll have a hard time finding it anywhere as good as this anywhere else.

Great little place to eat Pho Bo (Beef Noodle Soup) for around VND50,000 (apx. 1.80GBP/2.20USD).

On entrance, the lady was cooking a huge pot of fresh broth and smelled good. Unlike many places, here you have a choice of having raw beef or sliced cooked beef. I like to have the best of both worlds, so i ask for a mix :).

The broth was flavorsome, however a little too heavy and oily for my usual taste. The beef and noodles were good and soft. Having this for breakfast really kick started our day and the overall experience was to be surrounded by locals - gets a tick from me here also :).

Overall I would say, if you are around town in Hanoi, be sure to drop by this place to have a taste of what locals like to eat in Hanoi.
